Digital Development Compass
Digital Development CompassGet the code
What is it?
Automated data scraper: points to unstructured public data sets to create a Digital Development Exchange for open data, mapped to the Digital Transformation Framework then uses GitHub Actions to process data into CSV files for the Digital Development Compass to calculate and visualize.
Why it was developed?
This tool is based on the UNDP's Whole-of-Society Inclusive Digital Transformation framework. UNDP advocates inclusive, society-wide digital transformation. It is a coordinated approach between government, civil society and the private sector to create ownership, support human-centered design, mitigate risk and establish accountability. The Digital Transformation Framework helps stakeholders align with the key elements of inclusive digital transformation. The framework allows these actors to identify, structure and prioritize efforts. The Digital Transformation Framework is divided into seven pillars. Each pillar is then mapped to a sub-pillar. And each sub-pillar maps a specific stage of the digital transformation. The sub-pillar consists of any number of individual indicators. These indicators are used to calculate a country's digital transformation score per sub-pillar.
Why we are sharing it?
The Digital Development Compass (DDC) combines international public datasets on inclusive digital transformation with local country datasets and ranks them against our Digital Readiness Stages (from 1 to 5.99). Leveraging the Data Manifest compiles data sources and uses Digital Assessment Data Structure Filename Matching as the primary source document for matching.
